- Blurred vision
- Inability to wear standard contact lenses
- Glasses don't provide adequate correction and keep changing
- Abnormal corneal topography (corneal mapping)
Keratoconus is easy to diagnose with the right equipment (mapping with corneal topography) or if you know what you are looking for. In most cases it is only diagnosed after years of frustration and great expense on lenses or glasses that constantly need to be changed. If you think you may have keratoconus, the LCRS offers free screening at our clinic. We can even do it locally for patient groups of over 5. Ask your optician to get in touch with us to arrange a local screening session.
Causes: often unknown but it can be linked with eye rubbing, atopic conditions (asthma, eczema and hay fever), genetic association (brothers and sisters should be screened using a simple and quick corneal mapping system) and Down's syndrome.
